The Mobile Board of Education unanimously approved bids for the building of on-campus stadiums at Davidson and B.C. Rain High Schools on Friday.

Both low bids came from Ben M. Radcliff Contractors, Inc.

The B.C. Rain stadium will cost $5,547,229, while the Davidson price tag is $5,531,771.

They are the third and fourth stadiums contracted by MCPSS. Stadiums at Vigor and LeFlore were approved in November. All four stadiums are expected to have turf fields.

MCPSS director of communications Rena Philips said the goal is to have the Vigor and LeFlore stadiums completed next August in time for the 2022 football season and to have Davidson and B.C. Rain completed soon after that.

In May, the Board unanimously approved the hiring of an architect to build five new stadiums. The other bid that has yet to be approved is at Williamson High.

Mary G. Montgomery, Baker, Alma Bryant, Theodore, Blount and Citronelle already have on-campus stadiums.

Once the five new stadiums are completed, it will leave only Murphy without its own stadium. Philips has said in the past the school system is working on a plan for Murphy, but an on-campus stadium is not possible due to the school’s location.

Vigor, LeFlore, B.C. Rain, Williamson and Murphy all played home games at Ladd-Peebles Stadium for most of the 2021 season. However, following the Oct. 15 shooting in the fourth quarter of the Vigor vs. Williamson game, MCPSS officials have said they will no longer play home games at Ladd.

Vigor won the Class 4A state championship in 2021, playing three of its home playoff games at rival Blount.

Vigor and LeFlore played many of their home games at Prichard Stadium until the 2020 season but left that stadium due to “deplorable conditions.” A light tower from the visiting stands at Prichard Stadium can still be seen laying just off I-65 in Mobile.
