Bacolod City-Nearly 115,000 colorful lights flashing in Bacolod Public Square and Government Center have added more vitality to this year's "City of Smiles" Christmas celebrations.

Approximately 95,000 lights were installed on the square, turning the venue into a sparkling spectacle during the Christmas season.

The bandstand became the "Castle of Light", and the nearby Jubilee Tower was displayed as the "Tower of Light".

In the middle of the square, a 40-foot-long tunnel of neon tones is called the "Tunnel of Light" and attracts tourists to take pictures.

On Tuesday night, the installations were lit at a ceremony attended by city officials led by Mayor Evelio Leonardia, who said the event was dedicated to Bacolod people's.

Emperador Inc. and Megaworld, subsidiaries of Alliance Global Inc. (AGI), sponsored Christmas displays in the plaza and government center. On November 29 last year, nearly 20,000 lights were turned on.

In a statement on Tuesday, Leonardia thanked Andrew Tan, the chairman of AGI, the city’s adopted son and honorary mayor of Bacolod, for his company’s continued support to the city government.

He also assured Bacolodnons that once the 2019 Coronavirus Disease (Covid-19) pandemic ends, the city will “get back on track”.

"Bacolod will grow as before. We will continue to improve and we will rebound stronger," he added.

Leonardia said that as the public-private partnership continues to develop, the city's economic progress will soar to a higher level in the next few years.

"Despite the many challenges we have faced in the past two years, we are still able to maintain a vibrant local economy. With our resilience and firm determination, under the new normal, things will only get better and the future will be brighter," City said. Long said. (PNA)
